My dear friend,
Yesterday I received your beautiful letter and it was so happy to hear from you after long time. I am also glad as the festive season is beginning in my city, Kolkata.
Durga Puja is the greatest festival in Kolkata and it is celebrated with great pomp and grandeur. My city has already decorated with lights and canopies which looks fantastic. Pooja begins on the 7th day of the new moon, although we start pandal hopping from Panchami.
During the pooja days, the pandals are nicely decorated and illuminated. Men, women and children- all wear new clothes and go out to visit the images in puja pandals. The streets turn into bright look. Many food stalls and shops are setup surround the pandals. The scenes throughout these days are very colourful and happy. The festival ends with the immersion of the idol of goddess Durga in water bodies on Vijayadashami. After the immersion, people exchange greetings and best wishes. Sweets are distributed to all.
